The Bowen can be used to heal or reduce the pain and discomfort from injury through to sickness. Bowen therapy is a very gentle but powerful bodywork technique based on the work of the late Tom Bowen.

The Bowen produces a total body response, and consequently improves circulation, lymphatic drainage, assisting the release of toxins and joint mobility. This can be used on a horse of any age, a horse that is being treated by the vet would benefit because it will assist the healing and release of toxins from the body involved in modern medicine. The Bowen is also very successful for nervous horses because the Therapy tends to make the horse relax through relaxing the muscles. The Bowen Therapy does not replace using a veterinarian but used in conjunction can assist the healing and well being of the horse.

Bowen is a muscle work technique, which involves a series of cross fibre maneuvering of muscle, tendon or ligament. This addresses the muscles throughout the body to balance out the energy in the body to assist in the healing from a new injury to an injury that has been present for many years, or just to give the horse a feeling of "well being".

The Bowen promotes fluid to return to muscles and even joints, which can assist horses with arthritis.

This can be performed on foals only a few hours old to aged horses. The technique can be done just before an event for fine-tuning to assist the horse to perform at their optimum performance. The Bowen Technique takes about an hour and is a muscle roll, over various muscles tendon and ligaments. There is a sequence of moves to help various ailments. This technique helps a mare that has had difficulty in foaling down and also a foal that has a difficult birth.

The Bowen has had great results with horses that are stiff or as you would say "one sided" they are stiff more on one side. Stiffness stems from muscles that are sore and that are contracted. The Bowen Technique loosens and elongates these muscles much like massage which then brings blood into the muscles warms them up and improves the elasticity releasing lactic acid build up as well. I have had results including the topline of a horse improving within the hour of a treatment.
